Toronto defeats plans for a new Downtown Mega Casino

Toronto defeated plans for a downtown casino too! Back in late May, Toronto City Councilors voted overwhelmingly to say NO to the Downtown Toronto Mega-Casino. This follows defeats in Vancouver and Surrey, BC’s two largest cities. In Surrey, we were just aiming to win a battle, not the war, but the war on the regressive tax that is state gambling is now going pretty well across Canada as Canadians realizes that Casinos only benefit Casino Operators, and the executives within the Crown Corporations who promote their spread. Gambling is a net loss to governments with $3 in added social costs for every $1 the government takes in through Gambling. Of course, if governments cannot create new Casinos, they’ll just continue moving their gambling online…
